SOFC Girl's soccer welcomes Luke Baxter to the staff

With the new year comes new changes for Sporting Omaha FC. It is with great appreciation that we say goodbye to our current Girl’s Assistant Director of Coaching, Sean McCoy. Sean has been with Sporting Omaha FC for 10 years, and was a significant piece in our competitive girls’ program. He has assisted in many areas over the last decade helping hundreds of players advance through the club and on to college. Sean will be leaving the soccer community to pursue new avenues in his business career. He will continue his coaching roles within the club as we transition through the spring. We wish him and his family all the best.

As a club we are always looking for coaches with the passion and dedication to the game that the rest of our staff holds. To find the right fit for the Girl’s Assistant Director, the club wanted a perfect combination of experience and understanding of our Omaha community. With that being said we believe we have found that perfect match. Sporting Omaha FC would like to welcome Luke Baxter to the club as our new Girl’s Assistant Director.

It is with great excitement that we welcome Luke to the Sporting Omaha FC soccer club. Luke has extensive knowledge within the game of soccer that he will bring to the club. Coming in as the new Girl’s Assistant Director he has big shoes to fill but he is up for the challenge and committed to bringing the best to our players.” - Alex Mason

Luke has a rich history of coaching in the Omaha area in the 2010s, working with both local competitive clubs and high schools, as well as working with the Creighton University Women’s program and Nebraska State Olympic Development teams. In 2019 Luke and his family moved to Colorado where he was the Director of Goalkeeping for Arsenal Colorado Soccer Club. Shortly after that he was recruited to be the MLS Academy Goalkeeping Coach & Head coach for Real Salt Lake. When our Girl’s Director of Coaching, Alex Mason, reached out to Luke about some opportunities to come back to Omaha, Luke and his family couldn’t pass them up.

I would first like to thank Sven, Alex and SOFC for this fantastic opportunity. My family and I are extremely excited and humbled to be joining the SOFC family. We are excited to return to “the good life” and give back to the community where our journey began.

After numerous discussions with the club's leadership and sharing the vision for the future, my decision to be a part of Sporting Omaha FC was an easy one. I look forward to getting the ball rolling and meeting all the SOFC coaches, players, and families!” - Luke Baxter

The year is starting off as one of massive growth and development for SOFC. The future holds great promise for our club and with the addition of Luke to our girls’ program we will now be even stronger. Here’s to 2021!
