Welcome Our New SOFC Directors of Goalkeeping

June 28, 2017

Sporting Omaha FC is excited to announce the 2017-2018 Goalkeeping staff: Daniel Galvis, Director of Goalkeeping, and Mitchell Wolff, Assistant Director of Goalkeeping.

Daniel comes to us from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He is in his fifth season as a volunteer assistant for the Mavs goalkeepers. Before joining UNO, Galvis served one season as volunteer assistant at Creighton University. Before that, Galvis spent six seasons as the goalkeeper coach at Bellevue University (NE). During his time with the Bruins, Galvis coached two-time all-conference and all-Region goalkeeper Romain Couture, who was also a 2007 NAIA All-American, recording a 1.18 goals against average, while collecting five shutouts.

Galvis spent two years as the Bruins' goalkeeper from 2004-05. He helped the 2005 Bruins to an 18-3 record, the MCAC Tournament Championship, a school record for wins (18) and shutouts (10), and a No. 17 final national ranking.

He began his collegiate career in 2001 at Union County College in Cranford, N.J. where he helped his team to a 32-5 record in two years. Galvis then came to Nebraska and played his final two seasons at Bellevue University.

Born in Mexico City, Galvis was raised in Cali, Colombia. His early soccer development was supervised by Jose Luis Cruz (El Tucumano) at the Tucuman Academy, where he learned the essence of the game as a part of a talented group, many of which were signed to the Ajax of Amsterdam.

Galvis' goalkeeping education was acquired in El Deportivo Cali by the late Carlos Portela, one the best goalkeeper coaches in Colombia at the time.

Galvis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems from Bellevue University in 2006.

From Tim Bennett, ED of SOFC:

“We are excited to have Daniel join our SOFC coaching staff as our Director of Goalkeeping and College Recruiting.  We have been extremely fortunate at SOFC to have some great goalkeeper coaches in the past and Daniel is of the same quality. He brings a wealth of experience to our Club but his personality and character will allow him to teach and coach our goalkeeper to unprecedented levels of excellence! “

Daniel Galvis:

“I am excited to work with all the coaches and athletes of the club. The club has offered and facilitated the tools needed to develop talented young goalkeepers. The support given by the club and parents is important to our program's success. I want to thank Tim Bennett, Alex Mason, and Ryan Kruse for providing me this great opportunity. My goal is to become a positive role model in all the athletes’ development.”

Joining Daniel as the Assistant Director Goalkeeping is Mitchell Wolff. Wolff was the three-year starting goalkeeper for the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a 3x member of MIAC Academic All-Conference Team, 2x member of MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Wolff earned the Men’s Soccer Tommie Award (Best exemplifies ideal qualities of UST men’s soccer program), and Men’s Soccer Joseph B. Flood Award (Hardest worker in the UST men’s soccer program). Post college, Wolff signed a professional contract with MNUFC to play for Reserves team in 4th division of US soccer.
