The ultimate purpose of the Sporting Omaha FC Academy Program is to utilize a long-term, player-centered developmental structure, which is based on a coaching curriculum. The program will help enhance and increase the growth and development of each player.

The Academy program is designed to promote fun, efficient, and educational training sessions that will motivate and challenge each player, while developing within his or her own ability level. The Sporting Omaha FC program objectives are to: 1) develop the basic fundamentals of the game (passing, receiving, 1v1 skills, ball mastery); and 2) promote creative and thoughtful players. Coaches in the Academy program are instructed to focus and teach the fundamentals of the game. This will include Physical development, Psychological self-worth and Social development.

  • Meaningful playing time in games is a priority at this age.

  • Players will be exposed to all positions in the game of soccer (Forward, Midfield, Defense, & Goalkeeper).

  • Cost: $910 per year + team-related fees such as: tournaments, coach travel expenses, team social events, etc. (Team fees vary by team based on event participation).

  • Uniforms are approximately $150, not including a warm-up or bag.

Training Model for Academy players

  • Team training locations: Millard Star, Discovery, TQ North, OSC

  • U9 & U10 teams will play a combination of local sanctioned leagues, friendly competitions, and tournaments (1 travel tournament during each of Fall and Spring seasons)

  • U9 & U10: fall 8-10 weeks, 16 winter training sessions, spring 8-10 weeks

  • Academy fees will be paid by credit card in full or via a payment plan

  • Teams will be formed via an identification process through our Youthprogram and Open House sessions

  • Players will be given home work during the season.  This may be technical skill development or added individual tasks.

Academy Culture

Academy players will be educated on the field as well as in classroom opportunities to make them more tactically aware and help them grow a true love for the game. Included in the curriculum is a commitment to technical and tactical development as well as video and game analysis vital in the overall education of the players.

Establishing proper and consistent training habits for athletes will be a top priority in the Academy program.

The Academy program will also implement a common warm-up routine that teams will conduct before games and focus on similar activities in training sessions. Academy staff will be committed to this total teaching environment. All Academy staff will report their progress to the club Director of Coaching (DOC) on a seasonal basis. The DOC will conduct educational classes, courses and meetings as needed during the program.

Youth into Academy

The Academy will benefit from the Youth program. Each year Youth staff under the direction of Youth Director, Christina Lewis, will identify approximately 30 Youth players to be considered for the Academy.

The Youth will have three levels of identification

Level 1: Identification (U8 Youth)

Players are evaluated by the Sporting Omaha FC staff during Training Up Front sessions and scheduled Youth games during the Fall season of their u8 year. Players and teams are again assessed in the Youth environment during the Spring season of their u8 year.

Level 2: Pre-Academy Training and Evaluation

From Youth evaluation, a pool of approximately 30 players will be invited to participate in a series of supplemental training opportunities over the Winter. Pre-Academy players will return to their Youth teams for the Spring season and additional training will be provided in late Spring. Pre-Academy is an invite-only program.

Level 3: Academy Selection

In June, a final pool of 32-36 players will be invited to participate in the u9 Academy for the upcoming soccer year. Soccer should be a primary sport for all Academy athletes; however, multi-sport athletes are encouraged to participate as long as a base level of commitment can be fulfilled.
